David Evans Obituary

David Lee Evans 1946 -2019

David L. Evans passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening, December 2, 2019, at Fort Hamilton Hospital in the Carruthers ICU. Dave was born at Mercy Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio, on December 28, 1946, to Glenn E. and Marcella (Kuhl) Evans. He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1964 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving during the Vietnam era, first stationed at Lackland Air Force Base TX and later Wheelus Air Force Base in Tripoli, Libya, North Africa. He was honorably discharged from the USAF in August 1968 with the rank of Sergeant. He later attended Miami University.

He was united in marriage to Diane (Jones) Evans, the day before his birthday, on December 27, 1975, at St. Peter’s Church, Hamilton, Ohio, and they enjoyed 44 glorious years of marriage. Dave and Diane enjoyed travel, Las Vegas, slot machines, NASCAR races, and they attended the Indianapolis 500 race for 36 years with their close friend, Dan Mergy.

Dave was employed by ATC, the company that completed the remediation of the Fernald Nuclear site until its closure.

Dave’s favorites were his kitties, Noelle and Will Ferrell, (who never left his side ever), chocolate chip cookies, diet Coke, video poker, NCIS, The History Chanel, and a good New York Strip steak. Also, Dave departed this world without ever learning how to fold a fitted sheet! He’d say, Honey, I tried.

Dave was a kind, sweet, funny and gentle man who loved his family and always lifted everyone’s spirits with hysterical laughter from his never-ending jokes and groan inducing puns. He did not know a stranger. He volunteered in the community for Fort Hamilton Days, Music Café and lastly, for ten years, the July 4th Parade in Hamilton, that he absolutely loved!

Dave is survived by his wife, Diane; his sisters, Kay Kumler, Barbara (Jack) Heitsman and Nancy (Bob) Moore; sister-in-law, Ann Evans; Diane’s sisters, Nancy (Dan) Chaney, Marilyn Rumpler and Sherry West; many nieces and nephews who were all his favorites, dear aunt Dorothy and all his beloved cousins, and many close life-long friends whom he dearly loved.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother, Thomas J. Evans and niece, Sarah Hazel Moore.

Thank you to the many friends and neighbors who helped out during Dave’s illness, Dr. Chad Dunkle and staff, and Dr. Edward Crane and his staff at the McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Ohio for their loving, compassionate care, and for all who kept us in their prayers.

Remember Dave with a smile and a laugh, tell a joke, and make someone feel special today, hug your love ones, and know that grief is just love, with no place to go.
