John Gaylord Andrews, age 90, of Findlay, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on February 21st, 2018. His deep faith guided his existence, modeling a life of family devotion.
He was born on July 8th, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Leon Gaylord and Irene Elizabeth Andrews (nee Leitch). His family then moved to Philadelphia, PA where John spent all of his growing up years.
On October 21st, 1951, John married Pauline Ann Nesbitt, his beloved wife of 66 years.
He loved and was dedicated to Pauline and to his family. His frequent and plentiful use of witty humor encouraged friends and family. He enjoyed serving others and worked countless hours for Habitat for Humanity, Christian Clearing House, Community Dinners at First Presbyterian Church, and in Findlay’s garden club, antique club and historical society. He served numerous years as a Deacon and Elder, was trained in the Stephen’s Ministry program and was a 50 year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Findlay.
Although a humble man, his accomplishments were many. As a young man he obtained Eagle Scout rank, served in the Army (stationed in Alaska), graduated from Wittenberg University and began his full career as an accountant for Marathon Oil Company. He was a lifelong learner, history buff and an avid reader. John was President of the Antique Car Club, became a Master Gardner, and also enjoyed antiques, cycling, birding, ballroom dancing, card playing and extensive traveling to name a few of his many interests. He and Pauline were inseparable and their greatest earthly joy came from spending time together with the family. Joshua 1: 9 was noted as an encouraging scripture in his last months.
John is survived by his children Brooks Andrews, Rebecca (Daniel) Love and Jennifer (Robert) Nevins; grandchildren Weston, Morgan (Sara), Ben, Abbey, (Sarah), Anna, Christopher, Kenzi, Andrew, Mary Kate and great grandson Samuel Easton. His wife Pauline, and brother Frank and sister Virginia, preceded him in death.
A joint Celebration of Life Memorial Service for John and Pauline will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 12 Noon at the First Presbyterian Church, 2330 S. Main St., Findlay, OH, 45840. Visitation from 11AM until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Findlay Men’s and Women’s Garden Club, Master Gardener Scholarship Fund (c/o Bill Jones 11016 Twp Rd 125 Findlay, OH 45840) or to the First Presbyterian Church, 2330 S. Main Street, Findlay, OH, 45840.
