What a wonderful nephew he was. Always a joy to be around and I am so sorry we lost connections as we both went in different directions in life. But he played hard was kind funny and sweet and a great Christian at a really young age and I miss knowing he Is walking on this earth. But he is in our hearts always. Love to all. GOD BLESS AND KEEP CARRYING YOU...

It was an honor to be one of Lonnie's nurses. He always knew how to put a smile on my face. He could always tell when I was overwhelmed with something else with another patient and he would ask me to come back when I had a moment. I would always find that time, because he would have me pull up a chair and listen to a story, and after he would pray with me. He was always sweet to pray over us for the work that we did. Anytime I was leaving shift I would go in and he would always give me a hug and remind me that he would always pray for me, and I reminded him the same. That will never change, my prayers may be different now, but I will pray for his family in their time of need. Again, thank you for allowing me to be apart of your lives. I am forever grateful for life lessons he taught me, and they will stay with me always. He is so loved and will he greatly missed.

Although it was decades ago, Lonnie and I shared the most intimate male bonding settings- sitting in a fishing boat, talking about everything. And I recall it always being said with his infectious smile. A person's wealth in life is measured by having good friends. My life is richer from having known Lonnie. The very best thoughts and prayers go out to the family from Barb and me , knowing that the loving memories they have of Lonnie will help them in this difficult time.

I'm so sorry for y'all's loss. Lonnie was a great person. I was at Turpin when he was a drum instructor there. He was a supportive adult when I really needed one. He helped give me purpose and direction and discipline and belonging and respect and perspective in a way nobody had done before. He was fun and engaged and believed in the musicians in the band in a way that really left an impact on everyone. A part of him will live on in all the people he worked with. I'm so glad to have known him.

Mr. Stover was everything you could hope for in a teacher. He taught us how to play well, individually and as a group. He formed so many of us -- not just as musicians but as leaders.

Stover always had this aura, this reputation of being a hard-nosed, discipline-heavy taskmaster. Given that, it is crazy to think back on all the rehearsals and practices, and I can't think of one that I didn't enjoy. I can't remember ever dreading one of his practices. It was always something we looked forward to.

I saw someone else refer to him as a giant, and I think that is apt. Reading a biography, I was struck to see a reference to indoor drumline as something he did on freelance. For me, and I imagine for many others, those winters were integral to our high school experiences. For Stover, it was just something he did on top of everything else -- because he knew it was something we enjoyed, something we wouldn't forget. I think that's emblematic of the man he was. He always gave us his all, and he'll forever be our role model.

Mr. Lonnie Stover was one of the very best teachers that I ever had. For me, his class is where it all really started when it comes to music and he taught me all the things I needed to know to be successful with music. I was blessed to have been his student and I always admired him. I will forever be grateful that I was able to know him and will always carry the memories I have of him with me. Sending my thoughts and prayers to his family and all of my fellow students who loved him like I did. ❤️

Along with hundreds of other proud parents, grandparents and siblings, I watched and heard with some disbelief the beautiful music produced by the 5th and 6th grade bands at E.H. Greene. How in the world could he take 100+ beginner musicians and deliver such a wonderful concert? Amazing!

Both of my daughters learned to play the saxophone under Mr. Stover's passionate and enthusiastic teaching. Not only did they enjoy the experience of learning to play an instrument but they also benefited from being part of something bigger - the band.

Lonnie, thank you for bringing your passion for music, your zest for life and your incredible energy as a teacher and mentor to our children. You have had such a significant positive impact on so many lives. We'll miss you conductor Stover.

Music...
Speaks what cannot be expressed
Soothes the mind and gives it rest
Heals the heart and makes it whole
Flows from heaven to the soul

The music which is Lonnie will play for eternity...keep listening.
