Max Stover Obituary

STOVER

Max Russell, age 92, of Fairfield passed away on December 26, 2019. He was born on April 24, 1927 to the late Carl and Florence Stover. Max entered the United States Army in June of 1945, during the aftermath of WWII, in the Constabulary Corps stationed in Germany. He was responsible for the formation of the first Army Commissary in Germany. Max graduated from Otterbein University in 1951 and did graduate studies at the Ohio State University. He taught school in Alliance, Ohio and Urbana, Ohio. On June 18, 1955 Max married Betty Leonard, she survives him. In 1957 he began his employment at the Ohio Casualty Insurance Company, retiring in 1989 as an officer of the company. After retirement he had 30 golden years; he enjoyed winters in Myrtle Beach and spring and fall in Gatlinburg. Max discovered Southern Gospel music and traveled countless miles to see his favorite groups. He was also an avid fan of the Ohio State University football team.

Max is survived by his beloved wife, Betty; children, Michelle Stover Prok and Mark Russell Stover; grandchildren, Corey Ryan Prok, Andrew Craig Prok, Matthew Russell Prok, Emily Brennan Gregg, and Sidney Leigh Stover; great grandchildren, Oliver Christian Prok, Finn Daniel Prok, Maverick Ash Barfield, and Jack Otis Gregg; numerous other family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his siblings, Clara Belle Howell, Irene Hill, Lucille Bayles, Virginia Ruth Stover, Joan Burtchin, and D.W. Stover.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 2, 2019 from 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Methodist Church, 4601 Fairfield Ave., Fairfield 45014. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. at the church with Rev. Joe Payne officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to St. Mark's UMC or the charity of your choice in Max's honor.
