Richard Herbert-age 88 of Fairfield, OH passed away peacefully at home on August 13, 2018. He was born March 26,1930 in Biloxi, Ms. In 1948, he graduated from Ocean Springs High School as class salutatorian. He received many honors in high school; Captain of the band, Co-Captain of the basketball team, was voted “Mr. Ocean Springs”, and “Cutest Boy” among them. He receive the American Legion award and the Forestlands Scholarship. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving one year in the Army Band and another year during the Korean War. He went on to receive a Bachelors and Masters degree from the University of Mississippi in Mathematics. After college he had an illustrious career. First teaching at Upper Iowa University and then working in the Aerospace industry. The highlight of his career was working as a Reliability Specialist on the Apollo Project from 1962-1966, where he received an Authorship Award for a technical paper he wrote. On September 30, 1962 in Plymouth, Ma. he married Rita Anne (nee Dietlin) Mohler. They celebrated 55 wonderful years together. He was preceeded in death by his parents, Robert C. Mohler and Alberta E. (Kew) Mohler, his brothers: Bruce, Robert, Donald, Stanley (Bee) and one sister: Marilyn. He is survived by his wife, Rita; his Daughter, Michelene (Chris) King; 3 grandchildren; Jason, Jenna and Jackson King; his sister, Shirley Giafaglione of Ocean Springs, Ms.; his sister-in-law, Janice Faye Mohler of Mobile, Al and a nephew, Bruce Jr., who he loved like a brother; along with many more nieces, nephews and Great-nieces and nephews. Richard was a kind man, who love poetry, tennis, music and his family greatly. He was loved by all who knew him. He will be deeply missed. Memorial Mass will be held 23, August, 2018 at 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 400 Nilles Rd, Fairfield, Oh, 45014 with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of the Mass.
