Greene, Emma L. (Heitkamp) age 92 passed January 13, 2015. She is survived by her children Richard (Elena) Greene of Jackson, MS, Penny (Shawn) Webster of Hamilton, OH, Linda (Bob) Schrott of Cincinnati, OH, and Robin (Todd) Patrick of Baltimore, MD. Also surviving are her ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren who shared reciprocating joy when Grandma Greene shared a moment with them. A resident of North College Hill for more than 50 years, Emma enjoyed her community and neighborhood immensely. She was a watchdog for her friends and her residence was a haven for birds, squirrels, and the occasional duck family that would come by for a swim in the basin she placed in the backyard. Her most peaceful moments came from sitting at the kitchen window enjoying her private sanctuary. Friday was Emma’s favorite day of the week. A trip to the hairdresser, library, bakery, butcher, grocer and a drive thru for a fish sandwich was to her the only way to start a weekend. Emma was active in the kids’ activities through the Northside Women’s Club when they were young and later in the busy schedules they kept at NCH. She was a member of the women’s auxiliary at the local VFW for many years. At a party at her home, on June 9th in the year of 2012 the City of North College Hill proclaimed it “Emma Greene Day” in celebration of her 90th birthday. In October of this year Emma’s troubled eyesight continued to fail, and of her own free will, she limited her independence and became increasingly homebound. As the joy seeped from her daily routine, in December her spirit drifted away and she started to make peace with life here on earth as she proclaimed, “her work was done” and it was time for her to leave her legacy of a well lived life to be carried on by her children. As her will grew stronger, her savior responded, taking her into his care this past Tuesday at 4:24pm. Following her request, she has been cremated and her remains will join her late husband Henry Greene at Arlington Memorial Gardens in the Magnolia Mausoleum. A memorial service will take place in the chapel of The Mausoleum at Arlington Gardens, Mt. Healthy, OH on Saturday January 17 at 11am. The family will receive friends for lunch and a dove release at the Community Center on the grounds of the cemetery following the service. Memorial donations will be accepted by The North College Hill Scholarship Foundation, 1731 Goodman Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45239 so in her memory a child’s life can be advanced through education.
