Allan R. Blevens

age 78, of Hamilton, died Monday, November 23, 2009 at Ft. Hamilton Hospital.

He was born in Hamilton, OH, November 8, 1931 to Thomas R. Blevens and Edna (Pfaffman) Blevens. He was married to his high school sweetheart Barbara Rose (Benzing) on December 19, 1953.

Allan was a graduate of the Hamilton City Schools.

He served our country honorably as a Veteran of the United States Navy, graduating with honors as a certified surgical technician, receiving numerous letters of recommendation during his eight years in the Naval Reserve.

Allan attended the University of Cincinnati, Miami University, and the Ohio State University studying various clinical fields focusing in microbiology and later serving as a department head at Mercy Hospital.

He was responsible for the the development of the first electroencencephalograph laboratory in the Butler County Area.

Mr. Blevens was employed with the Butler County Health Department for 24 years before retiring as Chief Environmentalist in 1994.

He attended the First Baptist Church of Hamilton, OH.

Allan distinguished himself with kindness to others and was a true gentleman and caring spirit.

He was a warm and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

His great passion was always toward helping his family and loved ones.

He was always there to share his humor and lend his laughter and love each day.

He was a true inspiration to all who knew him and we will cherish all those joyous memories he has brought to our hearts.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Blevens; son Allan Blevens, daughter Kathy Rutherford and husband Rock Rutherford; brother Melvin Blevens; grandchildren Allan Blevens Jr., Ryan Blevens and Nichole Webb; great-grandchildren Christian, Lily and Ashlin Blevens; long time friend and sister-in-law Betty Cross; Bobbie Iredale; numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Lisa Blevens; brothers, Joseph Blevens, Thomas Blevens, Donald Blevens, and Jack Blevens; daughter-in-law Monica Blevens.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 30, 2009 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Dr. Dennis Metzger and Pastor Bill Brantingham officiating.

Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park, Hamilton, OH. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m., Sunday, November 29, 2009 at the funeral home.
