WEAVER, Alonzo

Age 88 of Fairfield, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Hospice of Hamilton.  He was born May 22, 1928 in London, KY, the son of Elmer and Verlie (Bowling) Weaver.  On May 19, 1948 he married the love of his life, Ruby Wagner.  Alonzo was a Korean Conflict Veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force.  He worked as a Truck Driver for Champion International Papers and was a devoted member of East River Road Baptist Church, where he served for many years as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Alonzo was an avid gardener. He relished his garden and delighted many a family member, friend, neighbor and acquaintance with the fruits and vegetables of his labors. His tomatoes were second to none, while his wife Ruby turned many an item into great jams and jellies.

For many years he also raised up many a young man in the fine art of baseball, managing the Minnelli team in the Fairfield Little League, winning a farm league championship with his elder son, and continued the tradition with his younger son, once winning the Hamilton/Fairfield Little League championship. He coached with love and affection, not loud intimidation.

Alonzo leaves behind: his loving wife, Ruby Weaver; children, Sandra Wyatt, Brenda (Ronald) Brown, Larry (Barb) Weaver, Sheila (Barry) Duckworth and Tim (Kim) Weaver; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother Billy Weaver.

Visitation will be 3p.m –until time of funeral services (5 p.m.), Monday, February 20, 2017 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield
with Pastor David Haarmeyer officiating.  Following funeral services the family will offer further fellowship and food provided at East River Road Baptist Church, 4525 River Road, Fairfield, OH   45014.  On Tuesday, February 21 at 10 a.m., friends and family will meet at the funeral home to pay their final respects and proceed to Crown Hill Memorial Park  for interment and committal services.  Memorials may be made to the East River Road Baptist Church.  The family will accept condolences at   www.avancefuneralhome.com
