Alton Wayne Fonville Jr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Alton Wayne Fonville, Jr, a devoted husband, proud father, and loving grandfather who left this earth for his eternal home on September 4, 2025, at the age of 70. Wayne lived a life marked by loyalty, integrity, and quiet strength. He shared forty-nine years of marriage with his beloved wife, Beth (Brenneman) Fonville. He was the father of four children and grandfather to eleven. Surviving children include Shannon DeShazo, husband Jon, grandchildren Naomi, Tabitha, Ethan, and Eliot; Natalie Fonville, husband Zalman Vaksman, grandchildren Eva and Raanan; Jennifer Dunham, husband Andrew, grandchildren Geoffrey and Joseph; and Zachary Fonville, wife Elizabeth, grandchildren Isla, Micah, and Ian. Wayne is also survived by his sister, Aleta Tittle and his four brothers: Jerry Fonville, Dale Fonville, Mark Fonville, and Earl Fonville. Wayne was active in his local congregation at Laurel Avenue Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon. He enjoyed birding, woodworking, tinkering, and playing with his grandchildren. He loved telling dad jokes, could pull out one-liners with a straight face, and had a sly wit that could catch you unawares. His only tell was the twitch at the corner of his mouth and the twinkle in his eye as he waited for you to catch on to the joke. His quiet laughter was a reward in itself. Wayne was never one to lead from the front but was always in the background looking for ways to give, to help, and to support wherever there was a need. He faithfully served God all the days of his life and will be missed by many. A visitation will be held on Thursday September 18, 2025 from 5-7pm at Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd. Fairfield, OH 45014. Funeral Service will be held on Friday September 19, 2025 at 11am at Laurel Avenue Church of Christ, 1049 Laurel Ave. Hamilton, OH 45015 with Charles Anderson officiating.
