Catherine B. Mcmahan

February 9, 1931 — December 23, 2005

Catherine Bess "Katie" McMahan, age 74, of Hamilton, passed away Friday, December 23rd at 12:05 p.m. at Fort Hamilton Memorial Hospital. She was born on February 9, 1931, in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of Sharon and Hilda (Conrad) Gillespie. She was a 1949 graduate of Hamilton High School. Katie married Russell Lee McMahan on August 18, 1951 and he preceded her in death in May of 1990. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamilton. She was employed by SuperX/Revco Drugs for 25 years, retiring in 1993 and a member of ABWA for several years.

She is survived by her five children, Gary Lee McMahan and Beth, Gail Lynne McMahan, Randall Lee McMahan and Maureen, Tari Sue Lawson and Jon, and Donna Cae Couch of Hamilton. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Kevin Lee McMahan and Jennifer of North Carolina, Bryan Lee McMahan, Emily Elizabeth McMahan, Rachel Catherine McMahan, Aaron Christian McMahan, Sydney Colleen Couch and Lloyd P. Jackson, and one great-granddaughter, Katelynn Elizabeth McMahan. She is also survived by a sister, Janet Marie Messer of Fairfield; a brother, Walter Lee Gillespie and Anna of Silver Springs, Maryland; sister-in-law, Carol Gillespie of Ocoee, Florida; sister-in-law, Lavada Grubbs and Bill of Hamilton; and brother-in-law, Gene McMahan and Penny of New Castle, Delaware; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Richard L. Gillespie; brother-in-law, Oscar B. Messer; niece, Jill Marie Messer; and nephew, Ricky Gillespie.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Road, Fairfield, Ohio with Dr. Dennis Metzger officiating. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Life Center or the Alzheimers Foundation. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Garden Manor Retirement Home for the love and care given to Catherine and the family for the past two years and to the staff on Five Main at Fort Hamilton Memorial Hospital for their recent support.
