Chancy Hoppes

January 18, 1932 — August 23, 2006

Age 74 of Hamilton, passed away to be with his Lord on August 23, 2006 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born to Rev. Russell L. and Fern J. (Thorn) Hoppes on January 18, 1932 in Summitville, IN. Bud graduated from Fowler High School in Indiana and then joined the United States Marine Corps. On July 12, 1953 he married Marjorie Koger in Fowler, IN. He was a Marine from 1951 to 1954, serving in the Korean Conflict. There Chancy earned many commendations and was very honored to have been selected by the Marine Corps to fill their quota of Marines attending the US Naval Academy at Annapolis. He was unable to attend due to a vision problem. Chancy loved the United States and the Marine Corps and served his country with honor. After an honorable discharge, he was employed by the Fisher Body Division of General Motors in Hamilton. He worked in Personnel and Security from 1954 to 1988. During this time he also attended the University of Cincinnati. Bud was an Honorable Kentucky Colonel and a member of VFW Post #1069.

Hoppy liked sports and was on the Fisher Body Golf and Bowling Leagues. Later, he was also on several Senior Citizens' Bowling Leagues with his wife and also the West Side Church of Christ Bowling Team. He also enjoyed the summer days spent at Fox's Den Camp on South Bass Island (Lake Erie), fishing with Bill, Ralph and Rod.

Mr. Hoppes encouraged his children in DeMolay, Rainbow, 4-H Projects, school activities and church groups. He enjoyed their friends as well, especially Lisa Sester and Sharon Braun French.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie; children, Diane (Russell) Fairchild, Russell (Patricia) Hoppes, and Deborah Hoppes; sister, Sarah (John) McMackin of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Russell Austin (April) Hoppes, Audrey (Chris) Martin, Rachel Hoppes; step-granddaughter, Ciera Morris; mother-in-law, Ina Koger; cousin, Ross Corder; and a Schnauzer, Fritz, a faithful companion.

Chancy was preceded in death by his parents and Edgar Koger, Ralph Koger, and John McMackin.

Hoppy loved and served the Lord as a member of West Side Church of Christ and was so thankful for the support of the members during two years of illness. A special thanks to Tracy, Jenny and Andy from Personal Touch Home Nursing Care. A very special thank you to Laura, Priscilla and Myra from Hospice of Hamilton.

The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. - until time of memorial service (3 p.m.), Sunday August 27, 2006 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Dan Knisley officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the West Side Church of Christ, Hoppes memorial fund 1190 Stahlheber Rd., Hamilton, OH 45013.
