Charles Philip Crampton

Phil Crampton, age 78 of Hamilton passed away Thursday, November 3, 2005 at Deaconess Hospital. He was born March 14, 1927 in Montreal, Canada, the son of Charles Percy and Dorothy (Wilson) Crampton. Phil moved to Hamilton for employment with Hamilton Tool Company in 1955 where he began working as an Engineer Draftsman. His creativeness in both engineering and sales was recognized by all who worked with him. This recognition was rewarded with promotions, ultimately as Executive Vice President from which he would retire after 35 years of service. Phil was Chairman of International Forms Industries from 1964-65. He was an honorary member of Order of Black Leaf. Phil designed multiple engineering concepts culminating in Circular Chart Press / Forward Numbering Batcher Stocker / Super Wide Track 60" / Jumbo Collator with double Folder / Variable Size Enloglio Press. In 1989, Phil developed the first American-made web entaglio currency press, as part of Stevens Graphics Corporation, Hamilton, OH for the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing. This press continues today. Other than his work, Phil enjoyed boating and playing golf at the Elks Club in Hamilton. For years he was a member of The Presbyterian Church, and later attended the First Baptist Church of Hamilton. Also, Phil was involved in the United Way, receiving the Bronze Amalthean Award for outstanding community service in 1964 and 1965.

Phil is survived by his wife, Dr. Pauline Johnson-Crampton; one son Master Chief Petty Officer Mark Crampton, USN and his wife Kerri; grandchildren, Sean, Sarah and Paul Crampton; step-children, Rita K. Johnson, Nita Johnson Yaw, Gina Johnson Dutro; step-grandchildren, Jenni and Shane; and 1 sister. He was preceded in death by his parents; former wife, Patty Crampton; 1 brother; and 1 sister.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at the First Baptist Church of Hamilton, 1501 Hamilton-Cleves Rd., Hamilton, OH 45013 with Dr. Dennis Metzger and Rev. Bill Brantingham officiating. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery at 4:30 p.m.. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday November 7 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield.
