JOHNSON, Charles R. “Mack”
February 2, 1924 - March 8, 2017
Mack, age 93 of Hamilton, passed away with his family by side to be with his Lord and Savior.  He was the second to youngest of 11 children to Robert and Julia Johnson, raised partly in the coal mining camp at Black-star, and a small farm in London, Kentucky. He left home after World War II, and started to work on an air strip in Kodiak, Alaska. He then served in the Merchant Marines through the war and years after, traveling to Europe, Middle East and North Africa, from 1943 to 1950. He finally gave up the nomad life once he met Barbara Hall, who told him she wouldn't date him from a distance. Married in 1950, Barbara and Mack first moved to Detroit, and back to Kentucky before settling in Hamilton, Ohio in 1953.
Mack is survived by his wife, Barbara; 4 children Jerry (Nancy), John (Barb), Karen (Jim) Guiton and Rhonda; 9 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. He was looking forward to another one… this summer. He was a chemical operator and the Atomic energy plant at Fernald, Ohio and insurance agent in Hamilton. Mack raised a small vegetable patch, walked a couple miles a day, and attended church regularly until recently, when he was no longer strong enough. His sense of humor inspired many stories like cheating on foot races, mustaches on sleeping victims, and creating a chewing gum tree. He is loved by his church family at Fairfield West Baptist Church, and numerous wonderful in-laws. The death of “Mack” Johnson is also mourned by his extended family, dozens of nieces and nephews and their children, as he was the last of his brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Fairfield West Baptist Church, 5345 Muskopf Rd., Fairfield, OH   45014.  Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday at the Church with Pastor Rob Rosenbalm officiating.  Interment will follow at Butler County Memorial Park.  In lieu of flowers, please give to Manna Ministries c/o Fairfield West Baptist Church, 5345 Muskopf Rd., Fairfield, OH   45014 or donate directly at  (www.mannaworldwide.com) .  The Avance Funeral Home & Crematory is proudly serving the family.
