Charles James, Trent

Charles J. Trent, Jr., age 81, a resident of Hawthorn Glen Nursing Center, formerly of Hamilton, passed away Easter Sunday, April 11, 2004, at 7:00 a.m. in Middletown Regional Hospital. He was born on December 17, 1922, in Knoxville, Tennessee, the son of Charles James Trent Sr. and Alice Barrows Trent. He was a graduate of Knox High School and a former student at the University of Tennessee before joining the Navy. He was a veteran of World War II. As a member of the Great Smoky Mountain Hikers Club, he helped blaze the many trails that run through the area. After the Navy, he worked at Oak Ridge before coming to Hamilton's Bendix Plant in 1955. He later worked quality control at Hamilton Foundry for many years. He went to work at General Electric inspecting jet engines for the Air Force and retired from there in 1984. He was a member of First United Methodist Church since coming to Hamilton in 1955. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and was a member of Izaak Walton League of Hamilton. An avid outdoorsman, he loved camping and fishing and enjoyed golf, cards, and family with a passion.

On April 17, 1948, he married Kathyrn Owana Roark in Knoxville, Tennessee and she preceded him in death on May 27, 2002. He is survived by a son, John A. Trent and wife Teri of Hanover Township; grandchildren Jamie Nicole Brandhoff and Kori Marie Brandhoff of Hamilton, John Charles Trent and Rachel Marie Trent of Hanover Township; a brother, John K. Trent and wife Eileen of Bethesda, Maryland and a cousin, Jan (Kinzel) Walker and husband Jack of Knoxville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Kathryn Alice Brandhoff.

The family would like to thank all those at Hawthorn Glen who made "Papa" feel like he was family, as he had his second family there. Thanks also to Dr. Jeff Zollett and his staff who gave not only kindness, but time and compassion in a difficult period. A special thank you to Middletown Hospital ER and the staff on Central 3 for their patience and understanding and sitting with him when we weren't able.

Funeral Services are 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2004, at Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield, with Rev. Kenn Barton of First United Methodist officiating. Interment will follow at Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 15, 2004 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory may be sent to Izaak Walton League, Hamilton Chapter, 450 Beissinger Rd., Hamilton, OH 45013.
