Charles Walters of Hamilton, Oh went home to our Lord on June 17 after an extended illness with Alzheimer’s. He was born January 29, 1928 in Harold, KY. He was preceded in death by his loving grandmother, parents, sister, and granddaughter, He is survived by Madge, his devoted wife of 65 years, daughters Andrea (Mike) Moorehead and Jan (Tom) Edgerton, five grandchildren, four great-grandsons, three brothers, a sister, and many nieces and nephews.
After serving in the Army, Charles graduated from Transylvania University where he was an outstanding scholar and athlete. He played on the “All Kentucky” basketball team.
Mr. Walters was a high school math teacher and coach beginning his career at New Miami and retiring as head of the math department from Greenhills – Forest Park. He would be the first to tell you that “Math is the most important subject you’ll learn. You use it every day!”
He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Hamilton serving in many ways including deacon and Sunday School teacher. He dearly loved his church family.
He was passionate about sports and enjoyed coaching and participating as long as he was able. He was a member of a softball team that went to the National Senior Olympics.
He was a gifted “handyman” and used his skills to help others and also help build his home. If something broke, his grandchildren always said, “Give it to Granddad. He’ll fix it!”
The family would like to give special thanks to the ladies who gave him extraordinary care in his home and treated him with loving kindness.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 22 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church of Hamilton 1501 Pyramid Hill 45013. Visitation will be 10-11am prior to the funeral and Tuesday evening from 4:00-7:00 pm at Avance Funeral Home and Crematory 4976 Winton Rd. Fairfield, OH 45014
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to First Baptist Church of Hamilton or One Way Farm in Fairfield.
