Clifton Hyde, age 76, born February 22, 1928 in Laurel County, KY passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, October 7, 2004. He was married to Geneva (Gordon) on November 26, 1955 in Brookville, IN. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army where he served overseas during the Korean War in the rank of Sergeant. After being honorably discharged, he began his distinguished career in law enforcement. He first began working as a Butler County Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Paul Pell in 1958. Mr. Hyde also served under Sheriff James Hixon where he became the lead Detective for the Butler County Sheriff's Department and attained the rank of Captain. In 1968 he became the investigator for Richard Wessel, Butler County Prosecuting Attorney. In 1973 he continued his law enforcement career as a Secret Service Officer under John F. Holcomb, Butler County Prosecuting Attorney until his retirement in 1985.
He enjoyed a 19 year retirement and took an active part in the caring of his grandchildren. Clifton Hyde is survived by his wife of 49 years, Geneva; one daughter, Marquetta Carmichael (Thomas, Jr.); sons, David Hyde (Eppie Elliott), Richard A. Hyde (Roni Zierden) and Douglas J. Hyde (Dana Rowland); one step-son, Ronald Lee Smith (Debbie Bengle and Family); two grandsons, Evan Schweinfest and Jacob Clifton Hyde; seven granddaughters, Alyson Schweinfest, Jessica Carmichael, Maria Carmichael, Courtney Hyde, Natalie Hyde, Chelsea Hyde and Peyton Hyde. He will be missed by his family and his many friends and Biscuit. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Richard Hyde and Millie Ellen (Johnson) Hyde; and his brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday October 11, 2004 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with David Hargrave officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m., Sunday October 10 at the funeral home with Washington Lodge #17 F. & A. M. services at 3:30 p.m..
