Della R. Onkst

Della Ruth of Hamilton, OH went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 11:45 p.m. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on April 27, 1929 in Hamilton, OH, the daughter of Rayburn Winkler and Lucy Wilson-Winkler. In 1948 in London, KY she was married to Densel Onkst.

She enjoyed life to the fullest truly a woman who did not believe in sitting idle. Her family is grateful knowing she is in a much better place in a strong and healthy body that will allow her to go at her non-stop pace. Della was among the first group of meter maids in Hamilton and eventually retired from Liberal. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, watching their sporting events and riding the Hamilton bike trail. She thrived on the true gift of giving and never missed an opportunity to help someone in need.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Densel Onkst; two sons, Ronald (Denise) Onkst of Bolingbrook, IL and Martin (Deborah) Onkst of Hamilton, OH; daughter, Ellen (Greg) Sparks of Hamilton, OH; five grandchildren, Chris (Tracy) Onkst, Nick Gallichio, Jennifer (Jeff) Harris, Meghan (Doug) Bell, J.T. Harmon (Fiancee Pharron Day); great-grandchildren, Jake & Payton Onkst, Alexis Bell and Emma Harris; brother, Richard (June) Winkler, many special nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Mercy Fairfield, especially our "angel" Robin and compassionate Paul. Also to her church family of Fairfield West Baptist for their pouring of love and support.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. until time of service (7 p.m.), Monday, January 17, 2011 at Avance Funeral Home and Crematory, 4976 Winton Road, Fairfield.
