Born April 1, 1930 passed from this life into eternity on September 21, 2007 at Mercy South Hospital. Donald was born to Robert Anderson and Elizabeth (McFarland) Anderson, and raised in Hamilton where he graduated from Hamilton High School in 1948. Don served in the US Navy from 1951-1953 and married Etta M. Williams with whom he had three children, Mark, Kim and Dale. He later married Laura Smith adding daughter Linette, and step-children, Linda and Bobby.
Don was active in the Hamilton West Side Little League, serving as past President where he spent countless hours volunteering there in various capacities. He also served as a statistician for Big Blue sports for several years, was active in HHS Boosters, was an avid reader, bowler, and card player, (always keeping score).
Don loved and followed baseball, basketball and football, and took special pleasure in attending youth and high school games when he was able to do so. He attended many state basketball tournaments with friends. Don was a member of the Central Committee of the Butler County Republican Party and was a Hamilton Fire Fighter for 10 years. He spent many hours playing cards at the AMVETS Post # 1983 with his friends.
Don was retired from Beckett Paper Company and resided at Woodridge, where he made many special friends.
Don was a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Hamilton and credited his faith with pulling him through many difficulties in his life.
Don was preceded in death by his mother and father; brothers, Bob and Bill Anderson; his former wives, Etta Anderson and Laura Anderson.
Don is survived by his sons, Mark (Marie) Anderson, Kim (Joyce) Anderson; daughters, Dale (Mike) Braun, Linette Anderson Shelton; step-daughter, Linda (Greg) Picur; and step-son, Bobby States.
Also surviving are his grandchildren, his pride and joy, Jennifer Donelly, Jason, Eric, Steven and Brian Anderson, Teri Tettenhorst, Elizabeth (Eric) Brown, Kimberley Anderson, Andy, Josh, Mark and Joey Braun, Martin and Devan Shelton, and Lora Picur; great-grandchildren, Devon Anderson, Chloe Thacker and Anna Brown; and sister, Mary (Lat) Williams of Charlotte, NC.
The family would like to thank the many friends that crossed Don's path and enriched his life.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Dr. Dennis Metzger and Rev. William C. Brantingham officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hamilton c/o Memorial Committee, 1501 Pyramid Hill Blvd., Hamilton, OH 45013.
