Age 70 died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Fort Hamilton Hospital an unexpected death. Don Schwab a civic leader for years. He has touched the community, a man of many talents and a man of many interests. Born in Hamilton in 1937, he graduated from Reilly High School in 1955 and attended the Hamilton Business College and AIB Banking School. He worked 17 years at First Financial Bank and then 8 years as Assistant Vice President for West Side Federal Savings and Loan. He sat on the student loan commission board in Columbus. He was on numerous boards including Past President of the Butler Co. Association of Trustees and Clerks, An Honorary Life Member, Member of Collinsville Grange, Life Member and Past President of the Jaycees, Past Board Member of the Chamber of Commerce, Past Member of Junior Achievement, Past President of Reilly Alumni, Current President of Milford Township Livestock Protection Association, Pest Board Member of Advisory Council, Ohio Student Loan Commission, D.S.A, Award for Hamilton Outstanding Young Men, State Senator for Jaycees, Past President of American Cancer Society, Current Trustee (secretary) of the Southwest Regional Water District for 27 years, Past 4-H Leader and started the county Township and Clerks project for 4-H. He was elected Milford Township Clerk-Fiscal Officer for 28 years. While with Milford Township He played and important part in the first Township Building. He was honored as Hamilton's Young Man Award. Later in Life, he worked for his son on a large successful Hog operation. Don was an avid Gardner receiving numerous 1st place ribbons. He was known as the gourd man for growing unusual gourds, pumpkins and squash. He enjoyed decorating in the community and was pleased to exhibit his fall displays at his son-n-laws dental practice. His leadership was extraordinary and will be remembered as truly a man of action, always a smile, and will liked by all who met him.
Don was born to Alvin G Schwab and Abbie Lesher in Hamilton Ohio. He is survived by his kids Jeffery Schwab, wife Toni, and grandchildren Lauren and Ryan, Daughter Debra Miller , son-in-law, Lairy Miller and grandchildren Megan and Emily. Also survived by his sister Betty Bailey and husband Jack, and his first wife Betty J. Schwab of 25 years, along with numerous dear friends of life from several personal and professional avenues.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Dr. Dennis Metzger and Rev. William C. Brantingham officiating. Burial will follow at Collinsville Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be to the Butler County 4-H Program, 1810 Princeton Rd., Hamilton, OH 45011.
