Donald Robert Sr. age 87, of New Smyrna Beach, Florida passed away on June 5th 2012. He was born in Bucyrus, Ohio in 1924, the son of Fred G. and Ruth Frances Welty. He graduated from Bucyrus High School and attended Miami University, Oxford OH. He married Sophia Jane Williamson in 1944 at Moorehead City, NC. Sophia, the mother of their children, preceded him in death in 1994 at their home in New Smyrna Beach, FL with the entire family at her bedside. In 1996 he married Marjorie J. Foley of New Smyrna Beach, FL.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church of New Smyrna Beach, FL for five years; and transferred his membership to the Coronado Community Methodist Church in 1997.

Don owned and operated a floral design shop known as "Flowers by Don" in Hamilton, OH from 1953 until his retirement in 1989. He loved his customers and during his career tried to avail everyone with affordable flowers and quality arrangements.

A veteran of the US Marine Corps, he served from 1943- 1946 and participated in the South Pacific Theatre.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie; three children, Walter F. Welty of Colorado, Donna Ruth Welty of Florida, and Donald R. Welty Jr. of Alaska; five grandchildren, Joshua Welty, Heather Creager, Christina Speers, and Sarah and Rene Welty; seven great grandchildren, Johnathan, Ashley, Sophia, Kayleigh, Kian, Alexus and Jaqualine.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dr. Myron James Welty in 1997.

Graveside services will take place at Greenwood Cemetery, 1602 Greenwood Ave 45011 on Wednesday June 13th, 2012 at 2 p.m., Rev. Grant Montgomery, officiating. For those so desiring; expressions of sympathy may be made to the family from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the Avance Funeral Home and Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., 45014.
