Donna Jean (Hughes) Lloyd

On March 25th, 2025, Donna Jean Lloyd of Hamilton Ohio transitioned peacefully into the unveiled presence of God, in her home and surrounded by her family. Donna is preceded in passing by her mother, Mary Carol Hughes (Richen) and father Paul Rawlins Hughes of Mt. Healthy. She is survived by her husband Larry Lloyd, her daughter Erin Lloyd Ortigoza (Alcides Ortigoza), her son Kevin Lloyd (Mindy Lloyd), as well as five grandchildren (Olliver Ortigoza – 14, Benny Lloyd – 12, Mae Lloyd – 10, Charlie Lloyd – 8 and Georgie Lloyd – 5). Donna graduated in 1969 from Mount Health High School, where she was a clarinetist in the school band. She stayed connected to her music and friends for decades after graduation through the annual Mount Healthy Alumni Band Concert. After high school, Donna entered Miami University where she earned both her Undergraduate and Graduate Degrees in Speech Pathology and Audiology.  In the fall of 1973, Donna began serving the children of the Hamilton City Schools as a speech and language pathologist. Her work has helped thousands of children find their voice. She retired in 2008. Despite her affliction with both type1 diabetes starting in 2010 and subsequent dementia, Donna remained in the home where she had lived for 38 years. In her “Dream Home” as she often described it, she faithfully tended her numerous flower gardens. As a Master Gardener and member of the Hamilton Fairfield Garden Club, she also assisted with many projects, including tending gardens at the Lane Hooven House. Donna’s other hobbies included playing piano, reading novels by her favorite authors, dog walking, yoga, cooking delicious food for family and friends and coloring in every Johanna Basford coloring book she could find. The Lloyd family is deeply grateful for the remarkable level of devotion and care Donna received from numerous private aides and nurses. In her final days, she received in-home care from Hospice of Hamilton, where the staff exhibited exceptional compassion for the entire Lloyd family. The Lloyd family will host a Visitation 10 a.m. – until time of Memorial Service (11 a.m.), Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield, OH   45014 with Pastor Cecil Day officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Animal Adoption Center at 2480 Ross-Millville Road Hamilton, OH 45013 would be appreciated. Playing with the kittens there gave her hours of joy. May those of us who survive Donna find strength in knowing that no one stands alone and that the company of Christ and His people now surround her.
