Doris J. (Getz) Bittinger

BITTINGER, Doris Jane Age 77 of Liberty Township passed away peacefully at home June 9, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was born on October 27, 1936 in Hamilton, Ohio the daughter of George Getz and Mary Elizabeth (Malott) Getz. She graduated from Hamilton High in 1954. She married Louis Marvin Bittinger on June 11, 1960 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage. After raising her family, she enjoyed working with her children in the family businesses consisting of Columbia Oil Company, Columbia Lawn Care, and The Candlemaker's Store. While raising her family, she was an active volunteer in her children's schools and activities. Doris enjoyed traveling with her husband, Marvin and visited all 50 states and several countries. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Doris is survived by a daughter, Cynthia and her husband, James Megginson; two sons, David and his wife, Lynn (Hall) Bittinger and Douglas and his wife, Rebecca (Shilt) Bittinger, all of Liberty Township; five grandchildren, Caitlin (Megginson) Nystrom and her husband, Ryan Nystrom, Adam Bittinger, Dakota Bittinger, Megan Bittinger, and Lindsey Bittinger; and a sister, Sue Hornsby. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin, her parents, and her grandson, Brenton Bittinger. The family would like to extend their deep gratitude to Dr. Paula Weisenberger and staff at OHC, Hospice of Cincinnati, and the caregivers from Colonial at Home. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 12:00-1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at Avance Funeral Home, 4976 Winton Road, Fairfield, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to The Brenton Donald Bittinger Memorial Fund for children with special needs.
