HOWARD, Eugene F.
Age 74, went quietly in his sleep to be with his Lord on March 2, 2007. He was born December 22, 1932 in Hamilton, OH.
Educated in the Hamilton schools, he graduated from Hamilton High in 1951. He attended Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, IL in 1951-52 and married his high school sweetheart Carol Mayes on August 16, 1952.
His business career spanned 33 years with Nationwide Insurance in Terre Haute, IN; Dayton, OH; Wapakoneta, OH; including 21 years in Greenville, OH. During his career he earned degrees as a ChFC, CLU, and RHU. He also served in the Air National Guard for 9 years and was called into active duty for 11 months during the Berlin Crisis in 1961-62.
He retired from Nationwide in 1988. After retirement he was credentialed with the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church. He and his wife did church planting work for seven years in Owensboro, KY. Following that ministry they returned "home" to Hamilton to family and friends.
Upon returning to Hamilton he began volunteer work with the AARP Tax Aid program in co-operation with the IRS. As a District Coordinator for Hamilton & Clermont Counties, and Local Coordinator for Butler County, he enjoyed recruiting and training other volunteers to work along with him in doing taxes for the elderly.
He was devoted to the Lord in service as a Sunday School teacher, choir director, worship leader, and board member for Beulah Beach Conference Ground. In days past, he enjoyed singing with a double quartet comprised of Gene Campbell, Bob Silver, Ted Sutton, Oscar Messer, Walt Treadway, Allen Jewett and Bill Phillips. They were known as The GospelSingers. He was presently teaching a Bible study at Berkeley Square and particularly enjoyed studying and teaching prophesy.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife Carol of 54 years,, his daughters Pam Howard of Boise ID, and Ginger Warner and son-in-law John Warner of Greenville, OH, and his sons Richard of Limon, CO, and James of Hamilton, also his daughter-in-law Denise Howard of Calhan, CO. He welcomed the births of six grandchildren, Emily, Aaron, Evan and Ian Warner of Greenville, and Adrienne and Kelsey Howard of Calhan, and great-grandson Payton of Greenville. His greatest joy was his family and never neglected to say, "I love you" when parting, whether in person or on the phone.
Besides his immediate family he is survived by his sister Darlene Pence, aunts Lois Jean Artis, Margaret Brown, Pat Brown, sisters and brothers-in-law Margie Mayes, Eileen & Gene Campbell, Nellie Wardlow and Bonnie and Bo Standifer, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Leo Howard and Thelma Thomas, sister Carol Sue Settles and brother, Murl McGaffeney and several beloved aunts and uncles.
The family will receive friends at Avance Funeral Home and Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield, OH from 4-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 6, 2007. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, March 7, 2007, 10:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church of Hamilton, 1501 Pyramid Hill Blvd., Hamilton. Dr. Dennis Metzger, pastor at First Baptist and Rev. Chuck Staudenmaier, pastor at Bethel Community Church will lead the service celebrating his life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Hamilton or Bethel Community Church, 2015 NW Washington Blvd., Hamilton.
The family wishes to thank the Hamilton Fire Department Paramedics and the Hamilton City Police for their professional service, and compassionate concern.
