Age 86 of Hamilton, passed away Monday, March 1, 2010 at Mercy Hospital of Fairfield. He was born August 16, 1923, in New Orleans, LA, the son of George R. and Corinne (Cavaroc) Conrad. On September 17, 1955, George married Doris Roth in New Orleans, LA. He served in country in the US Navy during WWII and then later graduated from LSU with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Mr. Conrad was a member of St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church and member of the Knights Of Columbus.
The devoted husband and father leaves behind his loving wife, Doris Conrad; sons George C. Conrad Jr. and Charles C. Conrad and daughter Maria Conrad Glynn; grandchildren Shannon Conrad, Caroline Balz, and Christopher Glynn; and sister, Lucille Jurgelon. George was preceded in death by his parents and twin sister, Corrine Baumstein.
George worked as chemical engineer for the Western States Machine Company in Hamilton until his retirement in 1991, during which time he serviced sugar refineries across the globe and taught engineering courses worldwide. He and his wife traveled to Brussels, Belgium, in 1992, where he received the coveted Sugar Industry Technologists' Sugar Crystal Award For Achievement in Sugar Technology bestowed only once per year.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2010, at St. Julie Billiart Church, 224 Dayton St., Hamilton, OH 45011 with Father Michael Pucke, Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Hamilton. Visitation will be 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., also on Friday, March 5, 2010, at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield, OH 45014. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society through your local church or at www.svdpusa.org. The family will accept condolences at www.avancefuneralhome.com.
