Gertrude Cole, age 98, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2005 at the Tri-County Extended Care Center in Fairfield, OH. She was a resident of Marion, IN for over 70 years. Born May 6, 1906 in Huntington County, IN, she was the daughter of Marcus and Amanda Holmes. Mrs. Cole was the owner of Cole's Dutch Kitchen, 6th and Branson St. in Marion, IN for over 40 years. After selling her business, she was employed as a cafeteria supervisor at the Franklin School. Gertrude enjoyed cooking and creating new recipes. She was a member of the Swayzee Street United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Mrs. Cole was also a Sunday School teacher for 25 years and played the organ and piano. She was a member of the Missionary Society and donated her time to several community organizations. She is survived by her one son, Marcus L. Cole, Sr. and wife, Linda of West Chester, OH; 3 grandchildren, Marcus L. Cole, Jr. and wife, Windy of Streetsboro, OH, Michelle Beyer and husband, Ronald of Hamilton, OH and Chad Cole and wife, Olivia of West Chester, OH; 4 great-grandchildren, Myles, Breeana, Laney and Matthew; and 2 step grandchildren. She married Richard L. Cole November 5, 1938 and he preceded her in death in April of 1966. Also, stepson Richard L. Cole, Jr. preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2005 at the God's Grace Ministries United Methodist Church, 4312 S. Adams St., Marion, IN, with Rev. Howard Pearson officiating. Burial will follow at Lancaster Cemetery in Huntington, IN. Visitation will also be Saturday from 11 a.m. - until time of service at the church.
