Gladys Louise (Joyce) Moore of Hamilton passed away from this life into the presence of her Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday April 17, 2026, after a brief period in hospice care. Born in Hamilton to Bearl and Aline (Nistler) Joyce on October 5, 1928, Gladys lived and worked her entire life in the Hamilton/Fairfield area. Never afraid of hard work, Gladys remained in the workforce well into her 70’s. She worked at various businesses throughout the area, from Champion Papers on B Street (both on the sorting lines as well as in the offices) to the City of Fairfield, where she ended her career as a clerk in the utilities office. Gladys was always a diligent employee. Gladys will always be remembered as a generous and giving person, not only to family members but also to any stranger who was down on their luck and needed a helping hand. She was very creative and demonstrated her gifts in many ways. She made clothes for herself and her children. She served as the family beautician cutting hair and giving permanents to many. She was a wonderful cook who could make a feast out of a couple of chicken backs and a little flour. She was an avid knitter, crocheter and quilter. She made beautiful afghans and quilts for each child and grandchild. She was fearless and may be remembered by many as the older lady who used to zip around town on a bright red motor scooter!
Gladys’ family consisted of 5 children: Joyce (Ed) Carr, Rick Moore (deceased), Marcia Martin (deceased), Brian Moore, and Dennis (Cyndi) Moore. 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. As a result of God’s gift of longevity, Gladys survived her three siblings and their spouses: Geraldine Joyce, Bearl (Betty) Joyce, and Doris (Rev) Cole.
Services to be announced at a later date.
