Glenna L Corbin

Glenna L. Cordin passed away April 17, 2008 at Heartland at Woodridge, Fairfield. She was born July 24, 1911, in Hamilton, Ohio, the daughter of Henry T. and Maud B. (Utter) Leifheit. Educated in the Hamilton Public Schools, she graduated from Hamilton High School in 1928. She attended Miami University's Teachers' College and received her teaching certificate in 1931 and her Life Certificate in 1934. Later Glenna earned her B. S. in Education from Miami and her Masters degree in Education from the University of Cincinnati.

On June 15, 1935, Glenna married Harold L. Diehl and he preceded her in death on June 14, 1949. On December 27, 1956, she married Richard M. Corbin, who died in June, 1987.

Glenna's teaching career began in 1931 in the Fairfield Township School where she taught the first grade. (When this class celebrated their 50th and 60th high school reunions, she was invited to attend.) Later she moved to the Hamilton Public Schools where she taught elementary grades, junior high and Special Education. She was Dean of Girls at George Washington Junior High School from 1955 to 1966. Glenna retired in 1971. She also worked in her family's shoe store, The Leifheit Shoe Store (1938-1949); worked part-time as the Business Manager for her church; was receptionist/consultant for the Columbia Federal Savings and Loan; and volunteered in surgery waiting area at Fort Hamilton Hospital.

Glenna and her friends Mary and Paul Erwin founded the Creative Publishing House of Oxford, Inc. (CREPHO) publishing color and number posters for primary children.

Glenna's hobbies were playing the piano, writing and composing music and writing poetry. She wrote songs for her church, schools, and various organizations. Several were copyrighted and published. She was a life-long member of The First Baptist Church in Hamilton participating in church Bell Choir. Glenna was also a lifelong member of Butler County Retired Teachers Association, #195 OES, Butler County Historical Society, Pioneer Family Society, AARP, Chi Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, International former board member of The Salvation Army, United Way, and Family Service.

Survivors include a special nephew, Bill V. Leifheit of Middletown, niece, Patricia (Gene) Isaacs of Florida; grand nephew, Bill V. Leifheit III; many other nieces, nephews, grand nieces, great-grand nieces and nephews; special friends, Mary and Paul Erwin; and many other friends.

Visitation will be 10am until time of service (11am) Wednesday, April 23, 2008, with Dr. Dennis Metzger and Rev. William Brantingham officiating, at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd, Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 1501 Pyramid Hill, Hamilton, 45012, or The Salvation Army, 235 Ludlow St, Hamilton, 45011, or any other charity.
