Gordon B. Schaub

July 6, 1919 — April 25, 2018

Gordon B. Schaub, formerly of Fairfield, Ohio, died April 25, 2018 at Berkeley Square Retirement Community. He was born July 6, 1919 in Hamilton, the son of Louis B. Schaub and Magdalena (Bertsch) Schaub. He graduated from Hamilton High School, finished some college courses, and joined the US Army when the county entered the Second World War. Mr. Schaub served in the Pacific during the war, and was awarded two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He was a member of VFW Post 1069 in Fairfield.

In 1949 he married Alberta Foster in Newport, Kentucky. He worked as a purchasing agent, and was active in the Masons and the Shrine.  Mr. Schaub was a past Master of Washington Lodge #17. He was also an enthusiastic amateur radio operator of station W8CAC.

Mr. Schaub was preceded in death by his wife, Alberta Foster Schaub; his parents; his brothers, Paul and Frank Schaub; sisters, Magdalena Byrd and Ada Matre; nephews, Howard Matre and Louis Schaub; and niece Phyllis Stewart.  He is survived by his nieces, Robyn L. Hobbs and Susan J. Gibbons; nephew, Marc D. Matre; and their families.  Services will be private.  Avance Funeral Home in Fairfield, OH is serving the family.
