Helen Jewel Wessel

Helen Jewel, age 90 of Fairfield Ohio, passed away at Westover Retirement Community on Monday, September 24, 2012. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio on December 18, 1921, the daughter of Carl and Helen (Neubrander) Brinker. Helen was a graduate of Hamilton High School class of 1940, and Miami University, class of 1944. Helen taught 4th grade in Hamilton before marrying Robert F. Wessel in 1951 and moving to Fairfield. She and Bob built their home in 1953 and worked to form the city of Fairfield. Robert preceded her in death in February 2012. Helen loved Fairfield and was devoted to preserving its history. She and Robert worked tirelessly to save and preserve the Elisha Morgan Farm Mansion on Ross road, and to form the Fairfield Historical Society, of which Helen was its 2nd charter member - Robert, its first. Helen was a member of Metropolitan Women's Club and a 53 year member of her most cherished organization, PEO; an international philanthropic, educational organization. Helen loved her friends, her home, her yard and flowers, and her birds. She was always happy and positive, no matter what the situation. Helen is survived by her son, David C. Brinker-Wessel of Naples, Florida; nephew, Stephen Brinker and his wife Kay Castle-Brinker of Cincinnati; great nephews, Chuck Brinker of San Francisco, Chris Brinker and his wife Katie of Worthington, Ohio, Clark Brinker of Washington DC, Carl Brinker of New York, NY., and a great great nephew, Bodhi Brinker of Worthington, Ohio. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Fairfield Historical Society, 4971 Potomac Drive Fairfield, Ohio 45014, or the Fairfield Community Foundation, 5350 Pleasant Ave, Fairfield, Ohio 45014. Visitation will be held Monday, October 1, 2012 from 10-11 a.m. funeral service at 11 a.m. at the Avance Funeral Home and Crematory 4976 Winton Road Fairfield. Graveside services to immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
