ONKST, Herbert
"Papaw" Age 84 of Hamilton, went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, December 4, 2008 at Huntington Court. He was born July 14, 1924 in London, KY, the son of Walter and Mary (Wilkerson) Onkst. On June 6, 1947 Herbert married Luella Reams in London. He was a Veteran of the US Army during WWII, serving as a P.O.W. He worked in metal fabrication as a designer until his retirement in 1985. Herbert was a member of the East River Road Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including, leading morning worship, playing basketball, and serving as a deacon and trustee. Other interests included his love of gardening and giving to others.
Mr. Onkst leaves behind his daughter, Karen Wright; grandchildren, Toni (Alvaro) Mendoza, Todd (Danielle) Wright; and great-grandchildren, Alvaro, Isabella, Avery and Liliana; brothers, Hobert Onkst, Densil Onkst, and Estil Onkst. He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 sisters; and 2 brothers.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the nurses and aides at Huntington Court for all of their loving care as well as Hospice of Cincinnati.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 8, 2008 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Pastor Tim Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m., Sunday, December 7, 2008 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cincinnati.
