Hester Eloise (Barber) Childs

Hester Eloise, age 99, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, November 19, 2016. She was born in Opal, Arkansas on March 31, 1917. Born to Elisha and Viola Barber, Hester was the eldest of eight children. She graduated from Acorn High School in Mena, Arkansas in 1937. Hester married Willard Cecil Childs on June 2, 1942 in Anniston, AL. They recently celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary before his passing on June 15th of this year.

She was a lifelong member of Redeemer Church in Hamilton and a member of the Washington Chapter #195 Order of Eastern Star. Hester retired from JC Penney Company in 1980 after many years of service.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Etta Jo (William) Shackleford, Hamilton, OH and Judy (Douglas) Clawson, Novi, MI; Hester will be greatly missed by her granddaughters, Sherri Heiman, Oxford, OH, Tammy (Rick) Langford, Hamilton, OH, Tiffany (Glenn) Liguori, Canton, MI and Stacie (Justin) Waddell, Roswell, GA; sadly missed by eight great grandsons and one great granddaughter, Tyler and Trevor (Katlyn) Langford, Ian Heiman , Oxford, OH, Ryan, Jason, Niklas and Shae Liguori, Canton, MI, Hadley and Charlie Waddell , Roswell, GA. She also leaves behind one great-great granddaughter, Kyrii Langford. Hester is also survived by one sister, Helen Jean Philpot, Mena, AK; and two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Hoffmann and Joyce Barber. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Hester is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Carol Sue Childs; her loving husband, Willard; also by 3 sisters and 3 brothers, Leda Short, Arletha Rodriquez, Allie Jo Mills, Leroy, Sam, and Russell Barber.

Funeral services will be held at Redeemer Church, 3431 Hamilton-Mason Rd., Hamilton, OH 45011 on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 with Rev. Craig Pinley officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM with funeral service following at 11:30 AM. Eastern Star service 11:15 a.m. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for their compassion and guidance; her caregiver, Shannon Nunn for her friendship, tireless service, and love shown to both Mom and Dad. The family would like to offer a special thank you to Robert and Edie Sears for their many visits, prayers, and friendship over the past several years.
