Ilena M., age 89, passed away on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 surrounded by family. She was born on November 4, 1926 in Fairborn, OH. On January 6, 1951 she was united in Marriage with Robert Gordon Cornelius to whom she was married for 60 wonderful years.

Ilena is survived by 3 daughters Karen (Rex) White, Marty Smith, Eggy (Sam) Casey; six grandchildren Krista, Alan, & Heidi White, Amy Smith, Barbie & Robbie Casey; two great-grandsons C.J. & River Rybarcyk; grand puppies Tucker, Bud, and Nala, and One brother Clifford Smith Jr. She was preceded in death by her son-in-law Jeff Smith, her parents Clifford and Edna (Flatter) Smith, and her Husband Robert Gordon Cornelius.

Ilena spent her most precious time with her grandchildren teaching them about farming, canning, baking and cooking. Many days were spent watching birds, especially hummingbirds, and enjoying the horses and sheep on the farm. Ilena retired from working for the Fairfield School District Nutrition Department. She was a 65+ year member of the Grange, 60+ year member of Washington Chapter #195 Order of Eastern Star and past 4-H Advisor. She had a love for supporting children and their experiences through the 4-H program.

The family is truly grateful for the love and care that Michele, Courtney, Peggy and others gave her through care giving over the years and because of them she was able to stay at home over the last few years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Butler Co. Jr. Fair Fund (In memory of Ilena Cornelius), Shriner’s Hospital of Cincinnati, or Hospice of Hamilton.

Services will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Cornerstone Church 7600 Princeton-Glendale Rd. Visitation will be from 1-2 with Funeral services beginning at 2 followed by graveside service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hamilton, OH. Condolences may be offered at www.avancefuneralhome.com
