Irwin L. age 88, passed away 9/13/ 2011 after a long battle with Alzheimers. He was the beloved husband of Geraldine (nee Freeman); loving father of Donna Cowing and the late Linda McIntosh (i.e. Blackburn). Also survived by his grandchildren Bryan (April) Blackburn, Rodney (Paula) Blackburn, Barry (Susan) Patrick, Rachael (Jeff) Blackburn Organ, Jordan Blackburn, and 8 great grandchildren . He is also survived by 9 nieces and nephews in Kentucky, Vermont and N. Hampshire.

Irwin Cowing was born and raised in Bellows Falls, Vermont. In the early years he was a farmer and dairy manager at the family farm.

Irwin served in the Navy during 1943 - 1946. He then married Geraldine Freeman. Their love of dancing brought them together in 1946 when they met at a canteen. After the Navy, they moved back to Vermont and tended the family farm and dairy (Riverside Dairy). Later, he built a home in N. Hampshire but opportunities opened and he moved to Cincinnati in the mid 50s to begin a career with the GE Company.

Irwin loved building, fixing things and remodeling. During the early 80s, he left GE to begin his own business building homes and cabinet making. He loved working with his hands and helping anyone who needed his help. Irwin was a very special individual who found good in everyone. He was very loyal and trusting (almost to a fault) and was there for anyone who needed him. He loved to socialize, was a huge Cincinnati Reds fan, and enjoyed years of playing golf. Those who knew him, loved him and could always count on him. He will be missed.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 17, 2011 at 12:30 pm at Arlington Memorial Gardens Chapel, 2145 Compton Rd., Mt. Healthy, OH 45231.

There will be a celebration of life gathering following the funeral service. It will be held at BJs Restaurant at Tri-County Shopping Center beginning at 2:00 to 5:00. Everyone is welcome to attend.
