Isabell Ruth (Hiner) Johnson

Isabell Ruth, age 96, of Hamilton, went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 13, 2018 at Hospice of Hamilton. She was born on July 15, 1921 at Central City, PA to Chester Arthur and Alice Margaret (Sebring) Hiner. Isabell was a 1939 graduate of Cresson High School where she earned a special medal in Latin. She was a registered nurse graduating from Allegheny General Hospital Nursing School in Pittsburgh, PA and worked there as head nurse in the operating room.

On February 16, 1946 she married Thornton Richard Johnson at the Presbyterian Church in Cresson, PA. They were married 45 years and he preceded her in death in 1991. After moving to Hamilton, as a nurse, she lovingly gave home health care to her mother, father, mother-in-law, and husband as well as others in her church family. Isabell was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church from 1946-1996 where she served as church clerk, deaconess, and taught numerous Sunday school classes, including Young Adults, the Friendship Class, and the Gleaners Class. In 1996 she became a member of the First Baptist Church where she served her Lord as Deaconess and substitute teacher and greatly enjoyed her Keystone class and Holloway Missionary Circle.

Isabell is survived by her devoted daughters, Linda R. Gibbs, Hamilton and Marsha K. (Bruce) Helton, Trenton; grandchildren, Martha E. (Tyler) Griffin, Middletown, and Andrew B. (Erin) Helton, New York, NY; great grandsons, Henry G. and David R. Griffin. She is also survived by other family members and her church family. Isabell was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and in 2017 her brother, Richard D. Hiner of Allenwood, PA.

Her life verses as a nurse were “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” Psalm 139:14 and “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13

Visitation will be Monday, June 18, 2018 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Avance Funeral Home and Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd.45014. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jeremy Spence, Pastor of the First Baptist Church, St. Paris, OH officiating.
