Jack D. Baker

Age 61 of Hamilton, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born December 30, 1944 in Hamilton, the son of Dee and Myrtle (Click) Baker. Jack was a Veteran of the US Air Force from 1965 to 1968, where he received his training for his calling in Firefighting. He was member of many organizations such as: (IAFF) International Association of Firefighters, Local #20; American Red Cross, Hamilton Optimist; Action Committee for the Handicapped of Southwestern Ohio; Hamilton City Council; and the First Baptist Church of Hamilton.

Jack was well-known for his dedication and efforts for handicapped persons to which he received many awards. Baker, who was partially paralyzed while fighting in a fire in 1971 as a City of Hamilton Fireman, was later an advocate for those with disabilities. Even after his accident, he continued instructing with the Hamilton-Butler County Emergency Communications (HBC) and for various Fire Departments. His passion for teaching and helping others continued as a teacher within the Hamilton City School and Mt. Healthy City School districts.

Jack is survived by his daughter, Jacqueline Miles; sister, Barbara Ann Baker; devoted nephews, Tom and Tony Baker; grandchildren, Nathan, Brian, Jacob and Erin. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Bobby Baker.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Saturday, November 25, 2006 at the First Baptist Church of Hamilton, 1501 Pyramid Hill, Hamilton, OH 45013 with Dr. Dennis Metzger and Rev. William C. Brantingham officiating. Burial with Firefighter Honors will follow at Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, November 24, at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hamilton.
