James Joseph Merz

December 23, 1941 — February 5, 2005

James Joseph Merz, age 63 of Seven Mile passed away February 5, 2005 in Warren County as a result of a traffic accident. He was born December 23, 1941 in Hamilton, the son of Arthur J. and Elizabeth (Mayer) Merz. Jim was a Veteran of the US Air Force serving from 1961 to 1965. He was retired from AK Steel and was currently employed with the City of Fairfield after his retirement. Jim was a member of the Middletown Moose Lodge, #501.

Jim loved his family and friends with all of his heart, always willing to help those in need. He liked auto racing and the outdoors - hunting, fishing and sightseeing. Jim loved nothing more than spending time with those close to him, especially with his son, traveling on their annual vacations or just being with his new grandson, Brodie. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his son, James (Jennifer) Merz; sisters, Elaine Bock, Ruth Bain, and Kathleen Witt; grandson, Broderick Merz. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Arthur J. "Bud" Merz.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday February 10, 2005 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield. Burial will follow at Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-7:30 p.m., Wednesday February 9, 2005 at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the National Park Foundation, 11 DuPont Circle NW, suite 600, Washington, D.C. 20036.
