Age 92 of Fairfield passed away Sunday July 9, 2006 at Mercy Hospital of Fairfield. He was born in Hamilton, OH on March 20, 1914, the son of Harriet (Pumphrey) Tankersley and Ross C. Tankersley. He was a graduate of Hamilton High School. On October 14, 1942, he married Virginia Richardson in Lynchburg, VA. During WWII, Jim served 3 � years in the US Army Medical Corps, serving 3 years overseas in the European Theatre, beginning in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany.
Upon returning from the war, he was employed at Diebold, Inc. for 33 years, retiring in 1972. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Elizabeth Kreider and Gladys Roach; brothers, Charles Tankersley and Eugene Tankersley.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamilton, and attended the Hamilton Men's Bible Class for many years. Jim was an avid sports fan, having lettered in golf during his school years. He was a "rabid" Ohio State Football fan, and enjoyed fishing and gardening. He and his wife, Virginia traveled extensively, having visited every state of the Union, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as, the Caribbean and 7 countries in Europe.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; son, James Joseph Tankersley; daughter-in-law, Sue Ann Tankersley; grandchildren, Brandon J. Tankersley and Alyssa T. Angel; all of whom he loved dearly; and 1 niece; and 2 nephews.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. - until time of service (12 noon), Tuesday July 11, 2006 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Dr. Dennis Metzger and Rev. William C. Brantingham officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill Burial Park. The family will accept condolences at www.avancefuneralhome.com.
