Jean Cottrill

July 28, 1929 — May 8, 2024

Jean Cottrill passed away quietly at her home with her daughters present on the morning of May 8th. A loving and dedicated wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother, family was her greatest source of happiness.

After a childhood growing up on her family’s farm, Jean came to Cincinnati as a young woman, where she met her beloved husband, Frank. Together they worked and raised two girls and created a happy and nurturing family life. Her home was a source of pride as she relished “having people over,” cooking dinners and planning an evening’s entertainment. She also loved to garden. Meticulous and organized, she was a valued secretary in her work life. In her later years, she looked forward to daily phone calls with her sister when they would talk and laugh about “absolutely nothing” and was so appreciative of her neighbors and church community, who kept a watchful eye and helped her stay connected. Her grandsons taught her all about sports as they would listen to and watch games together and she shared her love for playing cards (and winning), by challenging them to games of Uno, 31 and Chinese checkers.

In the past year, she welcomed the birth of her great grandson, affectionately calling him “The Little Prince” and her eyes would light up at the mention of a Rice Krispies treat and a cup of coffee. She always wanted to share.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank, and is survived by family members who cherished her: Terri, Sue, James, Kyle, Emily, Matthew, Martha and children (Jack, Jill), Barbara and children (Tina, Todd).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Shriner’s Children’s at this link: https://lovetotherescue.org/
