John Richard Howells

John Richard “Rick” Howells, 80, passed away peacefully at home on June 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

Rick was born on April 26, 1946, in Youngstown, Ohio, to Frederick and Catherine Howells. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Salianne Powell; his brothers, Thomas Howells and William Howells; and dear friends Larry Vicarel, Steve Leiter, and Garry Raffenberg.

A proud Vietnam Army Veteran, Rick built a successful career in mechanical and commercial HVAC sales. He was also deeply committed to his community, serving faithfully with the Optimist Club and officiating grade school and high school football for 25 years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years and best friend, Mary Lou (Sheehan) Howells; his cherished children, Tricia (Michael) Schmidt and John (Sarah) Howells; his grandchildren, John (Lindsey) Schmidt, Nicole (Spencer) Beane, Kane (Anna) Schmidt, and Olivia Howells; and his great-grandchildren, Roman and Ryker Beane.

Visitation will be held at Corpus Christi Church, 2014 Springdale Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45231 on Friday, June 5th from 9:00am until time of Mass at 10:00am with Fr. Jim Meade officiating. A Luncheon will follow at The Optimist Club, 194 Joe Nuxhall Way, Fairfield, Oh. 45014. On Monday, June 8, 2026, at 11:00am, a Memorial Chapel Service will be held at Ricks final resting place, Girard City Cemetery 1143 North State Street, Girard, Oh, 44420. Memorial donations may be sent to The Alzheimer’s Association.
