OKUN, John of Fairfield, age 87, passed away on June 5, 2011, at Chesterwood Village. He was born in Zeigler, Illinois on June 23, 1923, to Steve Okun and Trisa Okun-Picek. John served with the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. After an honorable discharge in 1945, he began working for General Motors as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1989. John leaves behind his beloved wife of 64 years, Darla Lorene; two children, Marcia Harris and Pam (Greg) Wilkens; and three grandchildren, Amber Harris, Trisa Wilkens and Brent (Leslie) Wilkens. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father Matt Picek, sister Mildred Bennett, and son-in-law Scott D. Harris. Burial services at Rose Hill Cemetery will be private. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 8, 2011, from 5:30 to 8:30 at Avance Funeral Home, 4976 Winton Road, Fairfield, Ohio. The family wishes to thank the Dixon family, the staff at Chesterwood Village and Dr. Pawel for the loving and excellent care John received. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Southwest Ohio or the Alzheimer's Association.
