Lenora Townsend

Lenora "Nodie" L. Townsend, age 85, passed away on Thursday, December 9th, 2010 at Woodland Country Manor surrounded by family. She was born on August 22, 1925 in Lamesa, Texas to James Carter Alexander and Eva Lenora Clawson. She was a graduate of College Hill High School in Texarkana, Texas. She married Bruce Townsend on April 18th, 1948 in Dekalb, Texas. He preceded her in death in 2000. She primarily was a homemaker taking care of her family and grandchildren, which brought her much joy. Lenora had a strong passion for attending and cheering on her children and grandchildren at numerous sporting events and always was their number one fan. She enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends and was an avid bowler. Lenora always had a sense of humor and was very quick witted and will live in our hearts forever.

She is survived by her son, Tom and special daughter-in-law Sophia Townsend of Hamilton, OH, son-in-law Dennis Tyra of Butler, PA; grandchildren, Brian (Mindy) Tyra of Dayton, OH, Jennifer (Todd) Bayer of Cabot, PA, Christy (Jeff) Snyder of Hamilton, OH, Rachel Townsend of West Lafayette, LA, and Drew Townsend of Hamilton, OH; great-grandchildren, Aidan and Nora Tyra of Dayton, OH, Hayden Snyder of Hamilton, OH, and Emma Bayer of Cabot, PA; sisters, Mary Keith, Emma Smith, and Betty Chasteen all of Jefferson, TX; and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Alexander, daughter Carol Tyra, son Dennis Townsend, and grandson David Townsend.

The family would like to thank Dr. Christopher Meier, Dr. Erica Brudzinski, and the staff at Woodland Country Manor. Lenora donated her body to medical research at the University of Cincinnati. The family will receive family and friends at Avance Funeral Home, 4976 Winton Road, Fairfield OH on Monday, December 13th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m., officiated by Reverend Jeffery Sexton. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Vitas Hospice.
