LLOYD TOWERS

Lloyd Towers, formerly of Hamilton, Ohio, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018 in The Villages, Florida. Lloyd was born October 11, 1921 in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Ralph and Eleanor (Miller) Towers.

He graduated with honors from Woodward High School in 1939. In later years, he served as President of their Alumni Association and was a board member for over 40 years. His University of Cincinnati college years were interrupted with love and war. Soon after he was commissioned a 2nd Lt., he entered Navigator training in the Army Air Corps and then married his true love, Becky Swope.

Lloyd returned to the University of Cincinnati after three years of military service and received a BS of Architecture in 1947. While at UC he was a member of Beta Kappa Honor Fraternity as well as the founding President of his Theta Chi Fraternity. He treasured and maintained those friendships his entire life. After ten years as an architect, he began his 27 year career as the Building Commissioner for the City of Hamilton.

Lloyd was involved with and presided over many building organizations in his career. He most notably served on the National Building Officials and Code Administration Board for many years. During his career, he was also active in local business organizations and was a member of the Rotary Club since 1967. He attended their meetings all over the world.

Lloyd was an avid bridge player, photographer, but most of all a sports enthusiast. He loved his Bearcats, Bengals, and Redlegs; attending or watching games on TV. He attended every home Bearcat football game for 70 plus years. He enjoyed golf, theatre and travel…but most of all, he loved family fun!

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor, his loving wife of 65 years Rebecca (Swope) Towers, son Lloyd Douglas Towers, and brother Russell R. Towers. Lloyd is survived by three cherished children, Kitty (Paul) Menchen of San Antonio, TX, Peggy (Randy) Stertmeyer of The Villages, FL, and Russ (Laurie) Towers of Asheville NC, four grandchildren, Eric Menchen, Lee and Gene Majors, and Ian Towers; three great-grandchildren, Brandon, Danelle, and Madelyn Majors, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held at 5-7:00Pm Monday, June 11, 2018 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Road, Fairfield, followed by a memorial service. A private burial will follow on Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or to a charity of one’s choice. Condolences: www.avancefuneralhome.com
