Age 92 of Hamilton passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Berkeley Square. She was born November 16, 1918 in Cincinnati, the daughter of Julius and Louise (Hursch) Lang. Louise was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
She was administrative assistant of the laboratories of Hamilton Mercy Hospital for 30 years and setup the laboratory at Fairfield Mercy Hospital.
Ms. Lang graduated from Norwood High School as valedictorian of her class. She received her degree from the University of Cincinnati leading to her career in medical technology. She presently holds the status of Emeritus Lifetime Member of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, as well as, Emeritus Lifetime Member of the Ohio Society for Clinical Laboratory Science. Before coming to Hamilton, she worked at two hospitals in New York and as Laboratory Supervisor at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati.
From 1965 to 1972, while working at Mercy Hospital she acted as a research consultant for Ortho Pharmaceutical Co. In the capacity, she helped to develop several laboratory tests for bloodbanking and pregnancy testing. Her pregnancy tests is now today's standard for all pregnancy testing. Louise's work was published in the Journal of OB/GYN and abstracted by the Journal of the AMA, and later works appeared in other medical journals. The fees she received from her research were used to purchase equipment for the both, Hamilton and Fairfield Mercy Hospitals Laboratories.
While a member of the Altrusa Club International, the community service organization, Ms. Lang helped to found Hospice of the Miami Valley. Her work was instrumental in the Club, earning the 1983 National Mamie L. Bass Community Service Award. Ms. Lang is presently an Emeritus member of Altrusa International and the Hamilton Altrusa Club. She is a Past President of the Cooperative Service League of Hamilton. She also was a member of the Board of Trustees of Senior citizens from 1985 to 1992.
Louise is survived by nephews, Bob (Annett) Lang and Greg Lang; cousin Roger (Lauren) Laming; and second cousins, Thomas (Debby) Laming, Mike (Janet) Laming and Sherry (Ron) Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be 12 Noon - until time of service (1 p.m.), Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Pastor Larry Donner officiating and Dr. Joseph H. Brandabur reading Louise's eulogy. Entombment will be private at Spring Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Hamilton or to the charity of one's choice.
