Age 93 of Hamilton, passed away at Hospice of Hamilton on October 27, 2008. He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on October 2, 1915, the son of Harry and Mabel (Miller) Clapper. Lyman graduated from Washington Twp High School, Lewistown, Ohio, 1936. On June 18, 1939 he married Lila McGowan and they enjoyed over 69 years of marriage. Owner of Clapper's Appliances and Bottled Gas, for 21 years, and retired from the Butler County Clerk of Courts after 12 years in 1984. Lyman served two terms as president of Hamilton Optimist Club, President of Midtown Optimist Club, and Club Secretary. He also served two terms as Lt. Governor of Optimist, Ohio District. Mr. Clapper was one of the founders of the West Side Little League in 1953 and served as Treasurer and Umpire in Chief for 11 years. For a few years, he also served as Assistant Secretary of the Greater Hamilton Bowling Association.
Mr. Clapper is survived by his wife, Lila Clapper; daughters, Joyce (Jan) Reid and Lisa (Tracy) Chaney; son, James Clapper; 6 grandchildren, Shawn Clapper, Vance Reid, Melinda Ollberding, Linda Chaney, Ryan Chaney and Brandon Chaney; and 6 great-grandchildren, Shila Clapper, Nick and Nate Ollberding, Justin, Jarret, and Jordan Reid. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Gene; and sister, Valeria Goetz.
Visitation will be 10am, - until time of service (11am), Thursday, October 30, 2008 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Ray Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Hamilton.
