Mark L. Hornung

Mark L. Hornung, age 96, died on Monday, April 11, 2005 at Westover Retirement Community in Hamilton, Ohio. Mark was born February 2, 1909 in Dunlap, Ohio. He was the eldest son of Lewis and Eva Mae (Wilpers) Hornung. Mark married Maxine Goggins on July 4, 1941 in Elkhart, Indiana. The Hornung family moved to Symmes Corner (part of Fairfield) in 1920. Lewis and his three sons opened Hornung Bros. Meat Market in Lindenwald in 1925. People from the Hamilton area still remember visiting the store. Once a week, Mark would deliver groceries to the elderly and shut-ins in the area. He would even take time to make repairs on household items. Mark retired from the market in the mid 1970's. He was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Hamilton and served as a Trustee and was active in the church well into his 80's.

Mark is survived by his wife of almost sixty-four years, Maxine; two sons: Roger (Jan) Hornung of Germantown, Ohio and Ken Hornung of Tampa, Florida; one daughter, Gracia (Michael) Ulrickson of Albuquerque, New Mexico; five grandchildren: Kirk (Bonnie) Hornung of Mandeville, LA; Kim (Andrew) Scott of St. Michaels, AK; Gayle Hornung of Washington, DC; David (Jessica) Ulrickson and Diana Ulrickson of Albuquerque, NM. He is also survived by his brother, Waldo Emerson (Mary) Hornung of Hamilton, Ohio, and eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Vernon Hornung and wife, Claire.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 14, at Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Road, Fairfield, Ohio. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be 5-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hamilton, 1501 Hamilton-Cleves Rd., Hamilton, Ohio 45013.
