Mark A. Pierson, Jr.

Mark A. Pierson, Jr, age 89, of Fairfield, Ohio, passed away on November 10, 2018.  He was a short-term resident of Tri-County Extended Care Center.  Mark was born in Hamilton, Ohio on October 3, 1929 to Mark A. Pierson, Sr. and Madelyn E. Eichel.  Mark lived most of his life in Hamilton and Fairfield until moving to Florida in retirement. He married the love of his life, Mary Margaret Korb, on May 8, 1945 at St. Peter in Chains Catholic Church in Hamilton, Ohio.   They were very fortunate to celebrate 64 years of marriage. Mark graduated from Hamilton Catholic High School and attended University of Cincinnati and University of Dayton.  He enlisted in the Navy in 1948 and was honorably discharged in 1952.  He served on the aircraft carrier, USS Leyte, during the Korean War.    Mark then began his career with American Materials Corporation and retired as Superintendent of Operations in 1995. Mark was an avid outdoorsman.   He loved to hunt and fish, especially with his two sons.  Many fish and quail came to fear the Pierson men.  Mark and his wife loved to travel also.    Mark was a member of Good Sams Club and Sport Coach Owners Club.  He was actively involved and a founding member in Fairfield Sportsman Assoc., Boy Scouts of America as a scoutmaster and supporter, an avid canoeist and Sierra Club member, and an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor.    In addition, he was a founding member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. Mark was a third-degree Knights of Columbus and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 1069, Fairfield, Ohio. He enjoyed reading, watching westerns and playing cards.  His love of these pastimes was only surpassed by his love of family.  Surviving him are his wife, Mary Margaret, daughters Peggy (Michael) Childers, Beth (Eric) Gerber, and sons Pat (Debbie) Pierson and Joe (Debbie) Pierson, and six grandchildren, Kayla, Pryor, Maddie, Kristoffer, Grace and Mary. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. - until time of Mass of Christian Burial (10:30 a.m.), November 15, 2018 at Sacred Heart Church, 400 Nilles Rd., Fairfield, OH  with Father Larry Tharp, Celebrant.   Burial will be in the Pierson plot in West Chester Township Cemetery, West Chester, Ohio.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, and/or Sacred Heart Church.  Condolences may be offered at www.avancefuneralhome.com
