STAPLETON, Mary
When Mary Stapleton’s parents immigrated to this country close to 100 years ago, they brought with them a strong faith and a belief in the American dream that they passed on to Mary, who in turn passed on to her children, who in turn continue to pass these beliefs to theirs. These strong fibers, rooted in all our heritages are what guided Mary, and are what made her the strong woman we all knew and loved.
After 83 years of giving and setting examples, Mary passed away peacefully on August 4 at Berkeley Square with her daughter by her side. Mary raised three children: Maureen Stapleton (Stephen) Fritsch, Conall (Shannon) Stapleton, and Brian (Rachel Klein) Stapleton whom survive her. Mary also is survived by her grandchildren: Andrew Fritsch, Abby Fritsch, Conall Stapleton Jr., Carrie Stapleton, Brogan Stapleton, Nicole Stapleton, Max Stapleton, and her step-grandchildren: Dakota Rednour Young, Cheyenne Young, and Colby Young.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Ann and Thomas Naughton; her brothers Thomas Naughton, Kevin Naughton, John Naughton, daughter-in-law Lisa (Zimmer) Stapleton, and ex-husband Donald E Stapleton.
Born in New York City on July 6, 1933, Mary attended Blessed Sacrament High School followed by Hunter College where she graduated with a degree in education. After marrying Donald E Stapleton, Mary and Don moved to Cincinnati where her life of raising her children and building a home began. After raising her children, Mary began a 20 year career at WKRC television. Mary enjoyed working in her garden, cooking fine meals, entertaining, knitting, and being with her friends. But what Mary most enjoyed was getting together with her children and her grandchildren for Sunday meals, where life seemed to slow down and revolve around what was cooking in the pot. As the Sunday meals continue and life rolls down whatever road we decide to travel on, we will always remember your laughter and think of you fondly as the smells coming from the warm pot tells us dinner is ready and you are still watching over us.
Mary’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses and patient assistants in the Anne Carter Wing at Berkeley Square. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to Berkeley Square - Anne Carter Wing c/o Community First Development, 230 Ludlow Street, Hamilton, Ohio 45011 or Hospice of Cincinnati.
Visitation for Mary will be on Monday August 8, 2016 from 6-8 p.m. at the Avance Funeral Home and Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield, Ohio 45014. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Peter and Chains Church, 382 Liberty Ave., Hamilton, 45013 Her remains will be interned at The Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, New York 10532.
