Mollie Annette Martin (née Smith) died comfortably and peacefully surrounded by her family on January 29, 2017 in Ross Township, OH. She was 70.
Ms. Martin was born on August 18, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was a graduate of Mason High School and worked at Kmart for 28 years.
Mollie was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at the age of 10. She always enjoyed telling the story of how the doctors originally thought she had “sleeping sickness” or Polio. Finally, a doctor from Children’s Hospital smelled her sweet breath and immediately diagnosed Mollie with Diabetes.
Mollie joined the Fairfield, Ohio Pavilion family on August 16, 2008. It was here that she thrived and dedicated her remaining time as a loyal member of the Pavilionaires Choir as well as serving a 2 year term as President of the Resident Council. Mollie’s determination and resilience allowed her to accomplish all of this despite being a bilateral amputee. These traits allowed her to capably maintain her independence until just recently when she then joined her loving son, John and daughter-in-law, Amy in their home.
Mollie was a patient, kind and loving person who excelled at welcoming new residents, leading group activities, and being Girl Friday to the Pavilion staff with administrative and recreational activities. Mollie also loved arts and crafts, particularly bead work and making jewelry with her best friend, Maureen Schwab. She had many faithful friends and was especially loyal to her beloved sweetie, Lou Dorrmann and family.
Ms. Martin is survived by her Son and Daughter-In-Law, John and Amy Bowles of Ross Township, her Sister Nelda (Charlie) Robinson of Middletown and Brother Dale (Alesea) Smith, 3 (estranged) Grandchildren and 2 (beloved) Step-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Bob and her daughter Melissa. Visitation will be held Friday, February 3, 2017 from 10AM until 12 Noon with services beginning at Noon. Burial to follow at Crown Hill Memorial Park, 11825 Pippin Rd., Cincinnati, OH, 45231.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Southwest Ohio Chapter or Crossroads Hospice & Palliative Care of Cincinnati.
