Omus O. Smith

Omus O. Smith, age 81 of Fairfield, passed away Monday June 21, 2004 at Mercy of Fairfield. He was born February 5, 1923 in Clay County, KY, the son of Charles and Maggie (Helton) Smith. On June 5, 1961 he married Rufena Lunsford at St. Clair Baptist Church in Hamilton. Omus was a member of the Governors Park Baptist Church in Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Maggie Smith, one sister Evelyn Anness, one brother Earl Smith, one son Johnny Lane Gibson and one niece Karen Smith-Licht.

He is survived by his wife Rufena Smith; daughter Nellie (Lester) Hooker of Fairfield; brother, Carl (Tennie) Smith of Indian Springs, Les (Barbara) Smith of Macon, GA, and Herbert (Nancy) Smith of Louisville, KY; sisters, June (CB) Stewart of Somerset, KY and Mae (Ray) Bowling of Blanchester, OH; 6 grandchildren; Lisa, Sheila and Stephanie Hooker, Johna, Brian and Amanda Gibson; 4 great-grandchildren; and a very special extended family Rob, Sharon, Matthew and Sara Wiseman.

Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., Saturday June 26, 2004 at the Avance Funeral Home & Crematory, 4976 Winton Rd., Fairfield with Rev. Vernon Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will also be Saturday from 11:00 a.m. - until the time of service at the funeral home.
