Paul Douglas Laycock

Paul Douglas Laycock, 86, of Fairfield, Ohio passed on to eternity and into the arms of the Savior he loved and served on March 7, 2024 in the hospice wing of Drake Care Center in Cincinnati, OH.  Paul was born February 17, 1938 in Elwood, Indiana to Wilford Paul Laycock and Delpha (Tremaine) Laycock.  At 11 lbs 4 oz he was the largest baby born at the Elwood Hospital.  The nurses said “Let’s just dress him and send him to school.”

Paul graduated from Gaston High School in Gaston, Indiana in 1956 and later attained an Associate Degree in Accounting from International College in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  On August 25, 1961 Paul married Carole Lynn Harper at the LaFontaine Christian Church in LaFontaine, Indiana.  He served as church treasurer there for several years.

Paul worked in the cost accounting department of General Tire & Rubber Co. (later GenCorp) in Wabash, Indiana for 34 years until the company was sold to British Tire & Rubber Company based in Fort Wayne.  He was then hired by the new company and worked for them the next 3 years, retiring in 1999 as Senior Cost Accountant.

In 2000 Paul and Carole moved to Hamilton, Ohio to be near their two children and all the grandchildren.  They joined the Fairfield Church of Christ where Paul served as treasurer for several years.  They moved to Fairfield in 2014.

Paul enjoyed remodeling houses, watching IU Basketball (when Bobby Knight was there), the Indianapolis Colts, pinball machines, arcades and traveling with his wife and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Carole, daughter Cindi (Jim) Weaver; son Brian (Tracy) Laycock; grandchildren Andrea Adams, Amanda (Michael) Willis, Alyssa Weaver, Ashley Weaver, Kimberly Laycock (all of Fairfield) and Kyle (Haley) Laycock of Columbus.  Great grandchildren Hayden, Huxley and Hawke Adams and Harper and Charlotte Willis (Fairfield, Ohio). Brother Phil (Bonnie) Laycock (Wabash, Indiana) and sister Judy Triplett (Colorado Springs, Colorado) plus many nephews and nieces.

He is predeceased by his parents, brothers John Laycock (Phoenix, Arizona) and Jim Laycock (Roann, Indiana).  Sisters Dr. Janette Sturckow (San Diego California), Phyllis Brown (Kettering, Ohio) and Linda Shepherd (Peru, Indiana).  He is also predeceased by grandson Marc Laycock (Fairfield, Ohio).

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday March 16, at the Fairfield Church of Christ, 745 Symmes Road, Fairfield, Ohio with Pastor Brian Schreiber officiating.  Visitation is 10 am-noon with the celebration starting at noon.

A second Celebration of Life will be held at LaFontaine Christian Church, 202 Bruner Pike, LaFontaine, IN on Monday, March 18 with Pastor Brad Wright officiating.  Visitation is 10 am-noon.  Celebration starts at noon followed by a short burial service at IOOF Cemetery in LaFontaine, IN.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Fairfield Church of Christ or LaFontaine Christian Church.
